Animal Protection League of Southeast Iowa is a non-profit organization of dedicated people working and acting together to help promote the welfare of animals. Through the support and gifts from those who love animals as we do, the League hopes to arrest the tremendous problems of pet overpopulation, animal cruelty, and neglect. Our missions is to accomplish the following goals: To maintain a working pet placement network to assist in the permanent re-homing of pets and to serve the need of the community at large, the establishment and maintenance of a permanent adoption center, animal shelter, and community resource center, the provision of foster care for unwanted animals pending permanent placement, the development of an extensive spay/neuter program, providing human education for children and adults in the service area, and raising funds to achieve the above endeavors.
All Animal Protection League animals remain in their current homes or in foster care homes until they are adopted. We do not currently operate a shelter facility. All APL pets are available at no charge to good homes and there is never a charge for our services. However, we would ask you to consider making a donation to the APL as your heart sees fit. There are no geographic limitations for referrals. We act as a referral network to match up people looking to adopt with those who have animals available for adoption. In this way, we keep as many as possible out of area pounds and shelters where they may be exposed to illnesses, experience behavior problems, and, of course, may be threatened with euthanasia. When we have is an animal listed that you are particularly interested in, we will refer you with the owner's name and number and you are free to contact them directly for additional information and to make arrangements to meet. If it's a good match, everybody wins! And that's all there is to it!
