Hero Dog Rescue - Cumming Pet Shelter

Hero Dog Rescue

Hero Dog Rescue is a Georgia-based not for profit organization dedicated to saving abandoned, abused and neglected dogs from high kill shelters. We believe that no animal should die without knowing a loving home. To that end, through our 100% volunteer operated organization, we work with dogs of all breeds and ages and place them in loving foster homes. While in our care, all dogs receive comprehensive medical and behavioral attention so they are ready to find their forever homes. Our organization is operated solely on donations from our compassionate supporters and requested in an ethical, honest, and transparent manner.

Adoption Process

Before you apply for a Hero Dog, please keep the following requirements in mind: Puppies – If they are under the age of 16 weeks, we will only adopt to residents of Georgia. Age - Adopters must be 21 years of age. Out of State Adoptions - We only adopt dogs out of state that are over 16 weeks, and the applicant lives in a surrounding state (AL, NC, SC, TN, FL). Vet History Checks – This is completed prior to approving your application. All current dogs must be spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations (distemper/parvo and rabies) prior to application approval. Cats should be spayed/neutered and current on rabies. Homechecks - These are completed as part of the adoption process and any pre-adoption is not considered finalized until the homecheck takes place. Our main goal during the homecheck is to ensure it is a safe living space and meets the requirements of the specific dog you are applying for. We will need to ensure that all of your current pets are living in the main living space of your home. We will check the fence (if applicable) and ensure there are no escape areas. Commitment - Understand that adding a Hero Dog to your family is both a time and financial commitment. Recognize that no dog is perfect, and be willing to commit to the dog on current and future behavioral and medical issues.
