Healing Hearts Animal Rescue Group (HHARG) is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abandoned, special needs, hospice and senior companion dogs from high-kill shelters. We do not have a shelter or physical location, and all of our animals are cared for in foster homes in the Northern VA area. We are all volunteers with no salaried-staff and rely on the kindness of donors and additional volunteers to keep us going! We serve as a resource to the public and to pet caretakers by providing education and information on responsible pet guardianship, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, good nutrition and preventative medical care. Since our inception in 2011, HHARG has rescued and found loving, permanent homes for over 1,000 dogs.
1. The first step in adopting a dog is completing our non-binding Dog Adoption Application. 2. Veterinary references and home ownership status will be checked. 3. You will be contacted to discuss your application. We are an all-volunteer group, and our time is limited, so at times of high volume it may take longer. 4. Arrangements will be made for you to meet the dog you are interested in, if you have not previously met him/her, at the foster home or an adoption event. 5. After you have met the dog, a mandatory home visit will be scheduled. The purpose of this home visit is to ensure that the dog will be living in a safe, appropriate environment. 6. The fee for adopting a dog is $325, and is required for all dogs adopted. This fee helps cover the medical, transport and foster expenses incurred in rescuing the dogs. Our expenses for each rescue almost always exceed our adoption fee. 7. Our goal is to find the best home for each dog. Please keep this in mind if we say that the home you can provide is not suitable for the dog you are interested in.
