H.e.l.p. - Home For Every Living Pet

H.E.L.P. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to saving the lives of sick, injured and elderly animals in the Los Angeles City Shelters. We love saving animals! H.E.L.P. is dedicated to saving sick, injured and elderly L.A. City shelter animals - those that remain behind in their cages while others find homes, those with little chance of rescue or adoption. We assist those who choose to adopt these pets in need, knowing that there are medical challenges, by paying an agreed upon percentage of the veterinary costs necessary to care for their new family members. In cases where there is no other option and the dog or cat would be euthanized at the shelter, H.E.L.P. rescues the animal and arranges for medical treatment and foster care. We also have an intervention/outreach program which offers guidance and services to the public when they have nowhere else to turn. Before establishing H.E.L.P. in the late 1990s, our volunteers co-founded the City’s groundbreaking Mobile Adoption Program in 1995 and it was at subsequent MPA’s that we became aware of the serious need for assisting the city’s medical dogs. Responding to that heart-breaking situation, H.E.L.P. became a reality and, in 2001 H.E.L.P. was granted 501c3 non-profit status. We are an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of all donations received will go toward helping animals.

Adoption Process

Each potential adopter of any animal is required to go through an adoption process that includes an application, contract and interview with one or more of our members. We make sure the potential adopter is aware of the medical, training and social needs of the animal; whether it is a growing puppy or an older animal. If the individual is approved, we will perform a home check to make sure that animal is going to a safe and good environment. The adopter agrees to return the animal to us at any point during their lifetime if they intend to give it up. We are committed to finding these animals great homes and screen our applicants very carefully. Adoption process includes application, interview, home visit, contract and donation. We do not adopt out of state.

  • There are good and decent people in the world and then there are the folks at the H.E.L.P. rescue group. My wife has painstakingly reached out to every shelter and rescue group 400 miles from our home to aid in the re-homing of our dog. We have worked with behavioral vets and specialists for over two years, and it hurts us both that we need to find him a home. Instead of stating anything positive whatsoever, or even signing their email with a name we were left with this response: "Sherman was your first dog and got you to give up on him is awful and selfish. He's fine with your children and you have no excuse to do such a selfish horrible things. This dog has been a loyal companion and you are abandoning him to put him in a confusing scary new place. Shame on you. You owed him the responsibly of a safe for owe home. Karma will get you. Poor loyal dog discarded like trash " Thank you nameless hero of the rescue world. You're a fantastic human being.
