Greenhill Humane Society - Eugene Pet Shelter

Greenhill Humane Society

Greenhill Humane Society has been caring for animals in Lane County since 1944. We operate the only animal shelter within the Eugene/Springfield area. Our programs include animal adoptions; reuniting lost animals with their families; crisis care boarding in situations of domestic violence, medical emergencies, and other crisis situations; spay/neuter for free-roaming cats; on-site volunteer opportunities; foster care and humane education. We envision a community in which all companion animals have loving homes and are treated with compassion and respect. Last year, we helped reunite or find new loving homes for over 3,000 animals. In addition, we provided over 1,100 free cat spay/neuter surgeries to assist cat caregivers in reducing feral cat over-population. Our humane education program reached more than 21,000 children and adults. Greenhill is a private non-profit and relies on donations for a majority of its budget. The generosity of our local community enables us to provide a high level of care to lost, abandoned, and neglected animals while at the same time helping pet owners in need.

Adoption Process

Step 1: View Available Pets - You can view our adoptable pets on our website or visit in person. For off-site adoption events, keep an eye on our website and our Facebook pages. Click here for dogs, here for cats, and here for other pets. Step 2: Meet Your Match - When you visit our shelter looking to adopt, you’ll start by filling out our adoption application and talking with one of our adoption counselors. They will introduce you to available pets and guide you through making a great match for your household. To get a jump start on the process, you can print an Adoption Application to fill out ahead of time. Please NOTE: We only accept applications in person so please do not fax or email them. We do not take applications on animals that are not yet available for adoption. At the shelter, you’ll spend time getting to know your potential matches and talking with our animal care staff about their history and needs. If you are adopting a dog and already have a canine friend at home, our experienced kennel staff can help by facilitating a dog-to-dog introduction at the shelter if you like - just ask. Not ready to take your new pet home today? No worries! You can place a hold until 5 pm the next business day to to prepare to welcome your new addition to your home. Step 3: Complete Your Adoption - Once your match is made, we’ll answer any other questions you have and finish up the adoption paperwork! We will need about 30 minutes to complete the paperwork with you, and you’ll need a valid photo I.D. Adoption fees vary and are listed in each animal’s profile. Dog adopters living in the City of Eugene or unincorporated Lane County will also be required to purchase a dog license at the time of adoption. Step 4: Your Lives Together - We want things to go well for you! If at any point you have concerns or issues during the life of your pet, we are here to help you. If things don’t work out at any time, we offer a guarantee of taking back any animal adopted through us. Please give us a call so we can help!
