Founded in August 2011, the rescue has saved over 460 dogs from kill shelters in Indiana and surrounding states. The rescue began as a result of President and Founder, Amber Marks, volunteering at a kill shelter for over six years. Seeing the GSD (German Shepherd Dog) breed being needlessly killed due to poor shelter behavior, she began her personal quest to save as many adoptable shepherds as possible.
1. Instead of posting photos of all the GSDs, it is more efficient to show approved families, dogs that are appropriate for their specific needs. Interested adopters will receive the online adoption application via email. Please review the requirements before inquiring about adoption. Please know, the rescue saves dogs that are harder to adopt so homes with experienced GSD experience is required. Homes without small children, small animals, or other pets are highly preferred. Please send an email of interest to: info@gsdrescueindy.org, Subject: Interested in Adoption. Please note age, gender, and temperament requirements. Confirm you meet the requirements. Kindly allow two days for a response. SERIOUS ADOPTERS ONLY. 2. Once the submitted application has been received and reviewed, adopters will receive a call to discuss specific needs of each family. This is to ensure, prior to meeting in person, that the rescue has a good match ensuring a safe and pleasant experience. 3. If potential match is found, adopters have a 5-day grace period. If adopted GSD is not a good match, the shepherd must returned directly to the rescue and a full refund is provided.

They live here temporarily until we can find them good homes. We have done what we can to make their lives here comfortable.
