FURS is an all-volunteer dog rescue and adoption group founded in 2001. Our grassroots, local organization is focused on careful, permanent adoptions of the dogs we rescue from euthanizing shelters and other high-risk situations. We rescue dogs of all ages and breeds and take in a high percentage of dogs needing medical treatment or who have special needs. Our commitment to the FURS dogs lasts their lifetime and while we do all we can to ensure that every adoption is permanent, we will ALWAYS welcome a FURS "alumni" back, no matter how long ago they were adopted.
1. Application Form. You can fill out our adoption form online or at our adoption stand in Carytown on Saturdays. 2. Home Visit. If your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit with the dog you wish to adopt in order to meet other family members and current pets. A home visit by a FURS volunteer is a requirement for every adoption, so we do not place our dogs outside of the Richmond area. 3. Adoption Contract. If the home visit goes well, we will provide you with an adoption contract and collect the $100 adoption fee at that time. We will hold the fee during a two week trial period prior to finalizing the adoption.
