The mission of Floyd County Humane Society is to advocate and provide for the welfare, protection, and humane treatment of companion animals in Floyd County, VA. Its objectives and activities in support of this mission are: To reduce the population of stray and unwanted pets by promoting and providing access to low-cost spay-and-neuter services; To maintain a stabilized population of feral cats in the county by augmenting and participating in community-based Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs; To assume comprehensive custodial care for as many homeless companion animals as possible - including strays, owner-surrendered, and those taken in by Animal Control - through temporary sheltering and fostering by our volunteer base; To facilitate the permanent placement of animals in our care through the operation of a vigorous adoption program, including on-line promotion, community adoption events, and thorough screening of applicants; To support the community in the humane and healthy treatment of their pets through such programs as low-cost vaccination clinics, distribution of free pet food through the area food pantry, free identification collars, and an emergency medical fund; To heighten the community's awareness of existing challenges with the pet population and together implement solutions via robust online and print informational outreach.
