EnchantMutts, Inc. is a small all volunteer 501C(3) non-profit rescue organization committed to promoting humane treatment for neglected, abandoned and unwanted animals through the three "R's" - Rescue, Rehabilitation and Rehoming. Education is also a large part of our program. We concentrate on dogs in small rural shelters that are at high risk of euthanasia, and we will, at times, transport animals in need to approved breed specific rescues who partner with us to save lives. We give them sanctuary in our homes (we are foster-based and do not have a shelter) and take the time to get to know them. We work with them, coach them - treat them as our own and begin their training. We acclimate them to life as a family member and learn who they are and the types of homes they will fit best in. Our goal is to place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following an adoption process which includes taking great care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, wormed as needed, heart-worm tested and placed on heartworm prevention and micro-chipped. Each animal is different and each dog receives the care they need, including special care for seniors or for more life-altering health issues. They receive the care they need to get as healthy as we can make them prior to adoption. We stay interested and committed in their welfare beyond the adoption process.
We are dedicated to finding the best matches for both our animals and adoptive families. We spend time getting to know the animals in our care during the foster period so we are very much aware of the most compatable homes for them based on their personalities and their needs. For most of our dogs - we do have requirements. We follow a specific adoption process. Here are the steps required to adopt a dog: complete and submit an adoption application; you will be contacted to discuss the dog/cat you are interested in and we will talk about the possible fit and review your application with you; if it seems as it would be a good fit, we will have you meet the dog to see if there is a connection; a mandatory home visit will be made; references will be contacted; if there are existing animals in the home and there should be, introductions will be arranged to ensure compatibility prior to any sleepover or adoption; sleepover (yes - we pack their overnight bags for a test drive to make sure it is a fit); contract is required to adopt; must be 21 to adopt
