Chesapeake Feline Association - North East Pet Shelter

Chesapeake Feline Association

Chesapeake Feline Association (CFA) was formed and approved as a 501(c)3 organization on October 30, 2009. CFA is and all-volunteer, non-profit, no kill feline rescue. CFA was originally founded by a group of women who were trapping in public areas such as shopping centers, public parks, schools, and community neighborhoods. These women were working independently and decided to form a Trap-Neuter-Return organization. Their goal was to reduce the unchecked breeding of free roaming cats, thereby addressing the over population crisis in Cecil County, Harford County and surrounding counties in Maryland. CFA has grown substantially within the last 10 years. We are dedicated to the rescue, care, and adoption of homeless felines in Cecil County Maryland. Our goals are to find loving forever homes for adoptable animals placed in our care. Until their adoptions are finalized, a haven is provided for them at the Chesapeake Feline Association’s shelter, located in North East Maryland. Long term residents who remain unadoptable will live the rest of their life at our shelter surrounded by love and attention from our volunteers. Since our inception, over 3500 fully vetted felines have found loving homes through our organization. We remain committed to creating a better world for cats and kittens by providing feline population control through spay or neuter. In August 2018 we opened the Miss Cat Spay and Neuter Surgical Suite, a high quality, low cost spay/neuter clinic, located in Perryville, Maryland. This clinic was designed to be a high volume spay and neuter clinic (focused only on spay/neuter) with the capacity to reach 1,000 sterilizations each year. As of December 2020, we have surpassed our initial annual estimate and have sterilized over 3000 felines.

Adoption Process

The completion of the questionnaire is the first step toward what we hope will be many years of happiness for both you and our rescue cat. Once you have answered all of the questions, one of our volunteers will review your application. Please allow 7 days for the complete processing of your application. We do not respond to incomplete applications. We do verify health information with your veterinarian. We do a background check on all applicants and their significant other. Some additional aspects of the application process may include: Scheduling of a home visit; Verification of your current or previous pet’s medical history with your veterinarian; Phone interview. We will make two attempts to contact you to let you know you have been approved/disapproved. If we have not heard from you within 24 hours of the last call, we will file your application. If your application is approved, you will be asked to sign a legally binding contract when adopting your cat. The adoption fee is $150 for a single kitten under 1 year of age or $200 for two kittens under 1 year of age. All cats 1 year and older, adoption fee is $70. This adoption fee helps to off-set the cost of some of the veterinary expenditures such as spay/neuter, age appropriate shots, distemper vaccination and deworming. Once the paperwork has been completed and the non-refundable adoption donation fee is paid, you will be able to take your new companion home. You will need to provide a carrier for transport. We may contact you after the adoption to follow up and ensure your cat is settling in well.
