Centre County Paws - State College Pet Shelter

Centre County PAWS was established in 1980. For over 30 years we have been committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs, educating citizens on responsible pet ownership, providing spay/neuter assistance, and ending pet overpopulation. We are a noneuthanasia, member supported, volunteer enabled organization dedicated to the Promotion of Animal Welfare and Safety.

Adoption Process

How to Adopt a PAWS Cat: To ensure that PAWS cats and adopters are properly matched and all homes are "forever homes," we have an application process for all adoptions. Please allow several days for our volunteers to process your application. Each potential adopter will first complete an Adoption Application that will be reviewed in person before approval (Adoption Applications are not considered complete when submitted via email or standard mail). This requirement includes adopters from outside of Centre County. Applications can be for a specific cat or may be "non-specific." Approved applications are held for 90 days and can be renewed indefinitely. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be able to show valid government identification. Please note that we are seeking indoor only homes for nearly all of our adoptable pet cats. PAWS fully supports Trap-Neuter-Release efforts for feral cats. If you are interested in an outdoor (barn) cat, please contact us to check on currently available cats and check in with our friends at The Hundred Cat Foundation to ask about their Barn Home Program. The adoption counselor who meets one on one with you will ask questions regarding your residence, other people living in the household, and other pets you may own to ensure the best match is made. How to Adopt a PAWS Dog: To ensure that PAWS dogs and adopters are properly matched and all homes are "forever homes," we have an application process for all adoptions. Please allow several days for our volunteers to process your application. Each potential adopter will first complete an Adoption Application that must be reviewed in person by an adoption counselor before approval (Adoption Applications are not considered complete when submitted via email or standard mail). This requirement includes adopters from outside of Centre County. Applications can be for a specific dog or may be "non-specific." Approved applications are held for 90 days and can be renewed indefinitely. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be able to show valid government identification. An applicant who has been already been approved to adopt and offers an appropriate home for the specific dog may adopt as soon as the dog is available. We encourage you to come to PAWS for pre-approval so you can adopt the perfect dog for you as soon as he or she becomes available. The adoption counselor who meets one-on-one with you will ask questions regarding your residence, other people living in the household, lifestyle and other pets you may own to ensure the best match is made.
