Canine Soulmates Rescue - Grapevine Pet Shelter

Canine Soulmates Rescue

Canine Soulmates Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit dog rescue and advocacy organization. Our volunteers are committed to a common interest of helping save lives and finding abandoned, abused, neglected, and lost dogs the right “forever home” for their specific needs. Canine Soulmates is an all-breed dog rescue volunteer group based in the Grapevine-Keller-Southlake, Texas, area. We focus on stray and shelter dogs who have no home. We also attempt to help people trying to re-home their dogs and if possible direct them to helpful resources. If we have an open foster home, sometimes we can take their dogs into our program. We have volunteers throughout the DFW metroplex who love dogs and want to help those who end up homeless through no fault of their own. The dogs in our program receive whatever veterinary care they need - vaccinations, spay/neuter, dentals, deworming, orthopedic surgeries, etc. — and are fostered in private homes while we look for their forever families. We do not have a shelter facility. For each of our fostered dogs, we carefully select a family living in the DFW Metroplex area who will be committed to care for the dog for its lifetime. We primarily adopt in the local DFW area where we are able to integrate home checks into our adoption process. We also feel it necessary to stay in an area that will allow us to quickly facilitate the needs of the dog, potential adopter, and in rare cases and adoption that doesn't work out. As a non-profit we support our organization through adoption fees and donations. Canine Soulmates Rescue is a federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, which means that donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. We always need fosters and volunteers! We can take in only as many dogs as we have dedicated foster homes. Our rescue pays for each foster dog’s medical expenses. Foster families provide socialization, love, and some basic training while the search is made for a “forever family.” Our adoption events are normally held on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Please check our events calendar, Facebook and Instagram accounts for locations and times.

Adoption Process

The first step in our adoption process is for you to complete a pre-adoption application. It gives us your contact information and allows us to begin to get to know your household. After you submit the application, a Canine Soulmates Rescue volunteer will check your veterinary reference if you have current or recent pets, and other volunteers will review your application as well. A volunteer will get back in touch with you. We are an all-volunteer organization, so it may be a few days before you hear back, so don’t worry if you don’t hear immediately. We will work with you to assess whether the dog that interests you is a good fit for you and your family. That assessment is different for each dog. If this is a puppy, are you prepared to continue working on potty training? If this is a dog that is still chewing, are you willing to put up with some chewed up items if you inadvertently leave something out? If this is an active dog needing a lot of daily exercise, will that work for you? Does the dog have any behaviors that would not be acceptable to you? The foster parent who has had the dog in his or her home often has the most insight to the dog. They will be able to share with you how the dog has behaved in their private home. We do our utmost to share all information, including all known medical information. Our adoption fee is $300. The adoption fee includes all core vaccinations including rabies, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and one year’s microchip registration. Additionally, each dog will have been tested for heartworms and will be on heartworm preventative. Some dogs may have been treated for other medical issues prior to adoption, and we will share medical information with you if the dog seems to be a good fit for you. NOTICE: The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has ruled that certain animal rescue organizations, even if tax-exempt, must collect and remit sales tax on adoption fees. As a result, Canine Soulmates Rescue now collects 8.25% sales tax on all adoptions. Prior to placement, a Canine Soulmates representative will do a home visit to see the environment where the dog would live. All our dogs are placed on a one-week trial basis before an adoption is finalized. This trial basis is designed to ensure that both the adopter and the rescue are satisfied that the placement is going well. Paperwork: If you want to explore adoption of a particular dog, please complete a Pre-Adoption Application. We look forward to hearing from you!
