Rescuers United For Furry Friends (r.u.f.f.) / Blue Angel German Shepherd Dog Rescue

Our mission is to save unwanted German Shepherd Dogs from death row in "kill shelters" in San Antonio and surrounding counties in Texas. We adopt these wonderful dogs to responsible loving, forever, indoor homes where the dog is treated as a member of the family and where they will be loved and kept safe the rest of their lives. Blue Angel German Shepherd Dog Rescue operates under the 501(c)3 nonprofit umbrella of Rescuers United for Furry Friends, also known as RUFF.

Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting please submit the application listed below or stop by at one of our meet-n-greet events noted on the calendar of events. You will need to provide 3 personal references (no family members please!) The references you provide should be people that have seen you interact with your pets. We will contact your 3 personal references via e-mail (please make sure we have the correct email addresses). You will also need to provide at least one vet reference. Please contact the vets office and let them know we will be calling and contact your personal references and let them know to be on the lookout for an email from us and let them know the importance of a prompt response. We will also conduct a phone interview with you. Please email us with the best time to contact you when you have the time to talk freely (Please note, we are unavailable M-F before 6 p.m.). We will contact you by phone to discuss adoption possibilities. If both parties want to move forward after the phone interview is completed and all references are checked, a meet and greet can be scheduled (Typically on Saturdays. On occasion, exceptions might be made pending everyone’s schedules. ) If all goes well with the meet n greet, then the required home visit can take place. Our adoption donations vary and are determined by a dog's age, training, and medical needs. The donation for a German Shepherd Dog starts at $350.00 for adults and $450 for puppies believed to be 12 months or younger. The adoption donation for a mixed dog starts at $200.00, again vary depending on age, training and medical need. All the dogs we offer for adoption have been vetted, spay/neutered, wormed, are current on vaccinations, have been heart worm tested, and are micro-chipped. The adoption donation helps to offset some of the costs we encounter for the care the dog receives while in our care. We are not an organization that receives any type of public funding and exist primarily on the adoption donations we receive. Please note, adoption donations are nonrefundable. One of the most important things we do is to match the right dog to the right family to insure a successful adoption. If the dog you adopt from us doesn't work out for any reason or if you are put in a position where you find yourself having to give up the dog you adopted from us, we require that the dog be returned to us at the adopters expense. No questions asked. The dogs we have rescued will always have a safe and secure home with us for as long as they live. We appreciate the fact that everyone is busy and time is valuable. We hope this information helps you decide if adopting one of our wonderful rescue dogs is something you would like to proceed with. Again, we thank you for your interest. We hope we will be able to connect you with the best K9 friend you will ever had.
