Alabama Pug Rescue And Adoption Inc.  - Westover Pet Shelter

In 2018, we made the difficult decision to close intake to care for those whose age and medical conditions deemed them unadoptable. Due to the lack of qualified foster homes and limited resources, this was the responsible choice to make for our rescue organization. Our mission “for the life of the dog” had to take top priority. These dogs’ conditions range but are not limited to diabetes, blindness, incontinence and severe deformity. We will care for them the rest of their lives. That care is ongoing and expensive. While our commitment in numbers has been reduced, our commitment to make a difference for those who surround us remains nothing short of providing everything they need. During our first year of reduced intake, we sadly lost five of these rescues, and this let us open the door to others who did not have other rescue or placement options. You will meet all of the rescues we currently care for. We have also been blessed to maintain a list of those whom we have placed with in the past, who want our assistance in adopting another rescue. To date, we have been able to do these placements without an outside search for an adoptive home. Do we take applications for adoption at this time? We do, but only if we have a dog that does not match the qualifications of those approved homes who are currently on our waiting list.

Adoption Process

Your application is the first step in the adoption approval process. Once this process is complete, you should expect interviews, reference checks and a home visit from an APRA representative before final approval is given. Every attempt to complete this process in a timely manner will be made; however, your cooperation and communication are essential. Please note that adoption applications will only be accepted from persons 18 years old or older. All Pugs/Pug Mixes or Pug Pals placed through Alabama Pug Rescue and Adoption, Inc. will be spayed or neutered, heartworm negative, current on vaccinations and microchipped as appropriate for identification purposes. The adoption fee is $300.00 and has not increased since 2008.
