A & S Rescue - Cary Pet Shelter

A & S Rescue

A & S Rescue is a small rescue group dedicated to finding permanent, loving homes for American Staffordshire Terriers and American Pit Bull Terriers in northern Illinois. We believe that Am Staffs and Pit Bulls have gotten a bad reputation by having careless or cruel owners who neglect them or use them in illegal ways. Under no circumstances will we place our rescue AmStaffs or Pit Bulls into homes where the dog will be subjected to dog fighting. We are strongly opposed to all forms of dog fighting and similar forms of animal abuse. A & S Rescue was founded in 2001 by Alise Carrico and Silvia Simmons. Since its founding A & S Rescue has placed over 500 dogs. A & S Rescue, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation, which enables us to seek outside financial assistance. With your generous support, we are able to save more AmStaffs and Pit Bulls.

Adoption Process

STEP 1 APPLICATION. We require that you complete and return a signed copy of the A & S Adoption Application. On this form, we require both a personal and veterinarian reference. Use adoption application 2 for dogs that are not AMSTAFF/Pitbull. Upon completion, please fax to 847.639.3903 or email to: [email protected]. STEP 2 INITIAL CALL TO FOSTER PARENT. After reviewing your application, A & S will contact you to discuss the dogs available for adoption. Please be patient while we review your application - we want to make sure that the match is a perfect one! We will phone you immediately after the application review is finished. STEP 3 HOME VISIT. Before meeting any of our available dogs, an A & S volunteer will visit your home to perform a "home check". The purpose of this visit is to verify any information you have listed on the application (i.e. fenced-in yard, crate, etc.) and to assure that the dog will be kept inside as a member of the family. STEP 4 MEETING THE AVAILABLE DOGS. After your application has been approved, you will be invited to meet the AmStaffs and Pit Bulls of your choice. We encourage you to look at all of the available dogs in our program which fit your profile. Most of our dogs are in foster homes in Northern Illinois; A & S will contact the foster family to arrange a meeting. All members of the family (including other dogs) are required to attend this initial meeting to assure a good match! STEP 5 ADOPTION CONTRACT & FEES. To finalize the adoption, we will need a signed contract. Our adoption fees range from $150 to $350. Each fee is charged in accordance with the amount of medical care the dog has received at the time of adoption.
